"The Public Outcomes Funding Agreement (PHOFA) is currently being renegotiated with the Commonwealth Government. The Rural Women's Health Programs, the prevention of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) program and a number of other public health programs are funded under this program in South Australia. A number of women's groups have been concerned with the omission of references to women's health. The SA Minister for health (the Hon. Lea Stevens) has made strong representations to the Federal Minister for the inclusion of a further PHOFA category 'Promoting Women's Health'. Also of concern is the lack of growth funding provided for breast screening services, which will severely affect the participation rate of women in the target population of 50-69 years.
The Minister has said that she is hopeful of a satisfactory outcome. "I have always enjoyed a good working relationship with my Federal Colleague, the Hon. Tony Abbott MP, and have found him to be responsive to reasonable argument. I urge all women across the political spectrum to present their concerns to the Federal Minister.""Dept. of Health: Reform News July 2004

From Marg:
I would like to thank all those women who have written in support of the continued funding of the National Women's Health Program and I encourage you to continue to lobby; particularly Senator Natasha Stott Despoja, Hon. Tony Abbott and Hon. Karlene Maywald.
